Here, we will post information about important legislative issues that are affecting DDS, the human services field and autism related services.
The developmental disabilities community needs help now. During the past ten years this system has endured over 50 cost cutting changes to the Lanterman Act, elimination of services, and reductions to a rate system that was already frozen. These lack of increases and additional cuts have put an already fragile system on the brink of collapse. It is time to restore our system and serve the community the way we were intended to.
The Lanterman Coalition, consisting of the 19 statewide organizations of the California Developmental Services system, has urged the Brown administration to stop the current state of collapse of our system with a 10% reinvestment and Senator Jim Beall and others have written a letter in support of repairing the IDD system with ongoing support.
How can you help? Sign the petition on Change.org today to let the legislators know how much we need this increase! Also, go to The Lanterman Coalition’s website to find a list of the top 10 things you can do to support our efforts. It’s easier than you think!

Last week 17 major stakeholders in California’s community based developmental services system came together to support a document put together by the Lanterman Coalition that outlines the immediate budget needs and requests from the local vendor community that serves people with disabilities throughout the state of California. This was a monumental event as it is the first time that all 17 groups have come together to support a full list of requests going to our legislators.
